THE tiny studio
Nau Mai here mai.
I am Amandine Riera, I create art under the name of Dïne the Fox:
I am an illustrator, a tattoo artist and a busy mum.
I live in the middle of the mountains of the south island of Aotearoa New Zealand since 2017.
I was born and brought up near Bordeaux in France, and I studied art in Nantes at “ecole Pivaut”, moving here in 2017. I consider myself lucky as I have two places to call home: my family place in France, and my tiny house here in New Zealand.
Why Dïne the Fox? Well. With my cousins we used to give each other nicknames all the time. One of mine was “Renardine”: a mix between Renard (which means fox in French, because I’m ginger like a fox) and Amandine. When I moved here, I did translate it literally as Dïne the Fox.
I can remember illustrating my first stories when I was about 6.
I love the relationship between the words and the images, the art of storytelling, the feeling of my pencils and brushes on a grained paper.
When I look around me, I see poesy and whimsical stories in everything.
I had the chance to learn how to adapt my work for the human skin, and I can now tell stories on people.
As human being, I feel my best surrounded by nature
– and a lot, lot, of art supplies
